HateAid will improve the support available for victims of hate speech and hate crime online, to build resilience amongst users who experience this and to re-empower them to go back online so they don't feel like they have been silenced by hateful sentiment. Support includes counseling via chat, e-mail or face-to-face, advice with complaint-filing, assistance with deletion requests on platforms and with legally securing evidence while also making the victims aware of their prosecution options and providing them with technical and digital security training. Combining both emotional and practical support in their approach, HateAid hopes to rebuild the confidence of victims of online hate while also increasing the reporting and consequence of hateful incidents online. Using their inhouse vulnerability scale to measure the individual-level impact of their work, HateAid hopes to decrease how vulnerable users assess themselves.
