Single Step is a foundation that supports, motivates and empowers Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans and Intersex youth in Bulgaria.

The Single Step Digital Indie Lab plans to use the Google.org grant to host annual accelerators. These will see up to 30 young digital content creators trained by experts in media production and consumption, hate speech and extremism, digital skills and literacy, digital campaigning and more. Upon completion, participants will be expected to develop their own projects that address anti-LGBTQ sentiment in Bulgaria. The top ten projects will be given small grants to support their delivery, and will be assigned experienced mentors to provide guidance and oversight.

Key insights

• Due to the Covid pandemic, Single Step moved their efforts online and hosted a virtual accelerator live event in September 2020.
• This included follow-up efforts with career counselling events and advice on job seeking.
• In-person accelerator events restarted in 2021 with creators partnered with mentors and experts, and the most promising pitches chosen to receive grants.
