Diagoriente

Using technology to help jobseekers gain access to professional immersions.

Unemployment in France has been an ongoing challenge, especially with certain groups. 17% of 15 to 24-year-olds are unemployed, as are 500K people with disabilities.

The Google.org Fellows helped the Diagoriente team to create a civic tech platform where jobseekers could apply for new "professional immersions" – a week or month-long internship in a company. These are available to people of all ages and backgrounds so that they can try out a new job or retrain into a new industry altogether.

“Thanks to the team of Google.org Fellows: Clément, Gabriella, Stepan, Jean-Francois, Simon and Nicolas, who joined our team full-time for six months pro-bono, we were able to build a reliable product that was able to scale quickly. In a few months, more than 17 000 people have contacted companies to request professional immersions”

– Nathalie Reyre,

Project Director

“Through this Fellowship, I had the opportunity to help launch a product that is helping thousands of job seekers in France, but I was also able to improve my level of French as a bonus. They are a brilliant, fast-paced organisation in the public sector with a very important mission.”

– Gabriella Araujo,

Google.org Fellow

How the Google.org Fellows helped

  • Assisted in building the platform from user sign up to displaying available opportunities and contact information for each role.
  • Facilitated collaborations with other French civic unemployment initiatives such as Pass Emploi and 1 Jeune 1 Solution, to improve the platform with their existing service.
  • Supported development of a pilot marketing campaign.

Impact of the project

  • 34,000 companies signed up for the initiative, and over 7,000 people have completed professional immersions.
  • It now takes 48 hours to process a contract (down from 15 days).
  • The professional immersion program helps 72% of candidates to secure a job within a year.
