The Peter McVerry Trust is aiming to open the doors of opportunity through the establishment of a catering and culinary training program for people experiencing homelessness and social disadvantage.

The initiative aims to establish an accredited education & training program for young people accessing Peter McVerry Trust homeless services; ultimately providing pathways out of homelessness and towards independent living. Upon completion of the training course at a Peter McVerry Trust service, participants would avail of work placement, and ultimately progress to a career within the catering industry. A suitable service is identified for the program, which can progress once the kitchen facility is kitted out and training personnel in place.

Once established, the project will provide cost efficiency across the organisation through the set-up of a food delivery service across Peter McVerry Trust’s homeless services. In addition to employment, the project will ensure high quality meals that are prepared and delivered by the charity’s own participants.

The project aims to provide independence and long-term employment opportunities for those experiencing homelessness. A farm will be created onsite, for additional horticulture training and food production capabilities. Ultimately, they aim to develop an app to facilitate efficient food delivery to ensure a truly impactful initiative for their participants and services across Dublin.
