Cross-border trade provides crucial opportunities to advance women’s economic and social empowerment across the East African Community, but women traders also face distinct challenges. Limited access to market and trade information, particularly among small-scale enterprises, leaves women traders vulnerable to loss of profits, exploitation by dishonest middlemen, and harassment at the border. Sauti leverages SMS and USSD technology to deliver up-to-date information on commodity prices, exchange rates, and official border-crossing procedures. Sauti is committed to scaling the impact of its mobile platform to ensure a more equitable and profitable business environment for women traders. Women traders across East Africa will be able to use any mobile phone to access tailored business information and report border experiences anytime, anywhere, and in their preferred local languages.
